ABOUT

Born in Hong Kong, raised in Sydney, Australia, but it was in New York where Eddy Chih Shun Fung gained his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, majoring in Fashion Design at Parsons School of Fashion. "Good Things Come In Threes" as Eddy believes, the 3 design elements which are presented in his collection of works below are elements he is able to transform into unique services catering to various styles of businesses.

"I’ve been fortunate enough to have come across certain paths in my career which have inspired me to be focused on channeling my vision and creativity into meaningful and relevant results.

VISUAL MERCHANDISINGFASHION DESIGN, and TREND FORECASTING are individually powerful elements, whilst once these forces are combined, the results can be simply magical.

PASSION being the common thread that runs through every project, I work from a place of authenticity which I hope shines through in the collection of works/projects highlighted below.

Windows and In-store displays

"Everything comes from somewhere.........and thanks to my background training in Fashion Design, I have learned to utilise my love of design and apply to Visual Merchandising. VM is a perfect combination of design and business. We are beautifying the environment so that we can inspire customers, serve a visual feast, but most importantly, to inspire and assist them in making a purchase that complement their unique style"

Ready-to-wear : Made-to-measure

"This is where it all started. Fashion Design and the respective master teachers not only taught me every aspect I needed to know to understand what a it means to be a designer, it also gave me the opportunity to learn what authenticity & being true to one self means. Passion is an essential element to creating anything, but knowing my love for fashion is reciprocated, it fuels my continuing journey to design"

Apparel : Home : General Goods

"I see Trend Forecasting as an opportunity to see through the magic globe and predict what the future (trends) hold. Similarly to a triangle, one side needs another to hold its shape.Trend Forecasting being one of the 3 "sides" that completes the picture, it's the most joyful process. It's true when they say trends come and go, but through my years of experience in this industry, it's more about how we view & interpret things and make it relevant"

VISUAL MERCHANDISING

VM UNIVERSE

Below are a collection of Visual Merchandising Projects that Eddy was invited to collaborate on. Applying his commercial eye for colour, shape & proportions to animate and bring products together that speaks to its respective clientele, we hope you will enjoy his visions & colourful journeys.

VISUAL MERCHANDISING

SHANG XIA

REBRANDING - Shanghai, China 2021

"The most intense project yet! Within a concise time span, I was gifted the challenge of building in-house VM guidelines for Shang Xia's six major merchandise categories: RTW: Jewelry: Leathergoods: Accessories: Home and Furniture. With a focus on designing new props systems for their Jewelry & Leathergoods department in preparation for the rebranding project scheduled for 04.10.21. Worked very closely with architects for store openings and integrated simplified VM systems to align with a more modern SX."

FORMIA

WTCE - Hamburg, Germany 2018

"Designed window & props to showcase all products designed in collaboration with various International Brands by my team at Formia. Animation of other products were also created inside the booth to give a "Retail store" experience. Frequent presentations of our personalised collaborative design collections were delivered  to specific Airlines. One of  my most memorable presentation was for TURKISH AIRLINES"

ASCENA

In-house Presentation - Hong Kong 2019

"An In-house presentation was prepared for the brands JUSTICE and LANE BRYANT on latest products developed and designed in their HK office"

ANN TAYLOR INC.

Times Square Office Presentation - New York 2016

"Bi-monthly presentations were prepared & delivered to Design Executives at ANN TAYLOR INC. Brands included ANN TAYLOR, LOFT as well as LOU & GREY. All categories of apparel products were designed to tailor-fit to each of the respective brand's needs. Presentation environments mimicked a retail store space to give a sense of newness. Products were appropriately merchandised & displayed on mannequins / rails  to show how one item can be effortlessly worn with another"

NEWTIMES DEVELOPMENT LTD

Creative Services - Hong Kong 2017

"Quarterly in-house Trend Presentations were organised to share latest information on fabrics, trims, silhouettes & styling to the heads of departments to assist them with communications with their respective clients"

MARC JACOBS

THE MARC JACOBS - Hong Kong 2013

"TIMING IS EVERYTHING". Entering into this position at Marc Jacobs in 2013 made so much sense especially as it was around the same time he departed as Creative Director at Louis Vuitton. Though there were times where directions were slightly foggy, this was the perfect TIME to meet & work with my colleagues to come up with the necessary business solutions"

TSE CASHMERE

TSE CASHMERE - Hong Kong : Macau : Shanghai 2013

"This project was a nice reminder of New York City. Responsible for the window design and execution as well as the in-store Merchandising for both TSE CASHMERE & TSESAY stores in HK, Macau and Shanghai. I had fun creating a New York CENTRAL PARK moment for the TSESAY store in HK with simple tools of back drop and an original NYC coffee cup"

LOUIS VUITTON

Vision of LVMH - Shanghai 2008

"Luxury fashion definitely has its price......but for me it was worth every penny. In a very short timespan of one year, I had the luxury to assist in opening 8 new stores for Louis Vuitton in China. Being at the right place at the the right time, it was an eye opener to see and be part of the explosion of growth for my own people in China"

CHLOE

CHLOE - Hong Kong 2007

"I never knew how fun and impactful Visual Merchandising could be until now. Though beautifying my surroundings had always been my goal, Chloe @ RICHEMONT made me realise that there was more to beauty than what I saw. The formula of using beauty to inspire your audience to not only appreciate your work of art, but want to own a piece of it was empowering"

VFA Teaching Seminar HCMC, Vietnam 2018

"Being invited to teach and share my knowledge on all aspects of Visual Merchandising were both satisfying and humbling. 3 day workshops are held in Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon), Vietnam twice a year in March & August respectively. To learn more about my teaching content which varies from seminar to seminar, please click on Learn More below"

FASHION DESIGN

Ready-To-Wear; Costume; Accessories

"It sounds cliche but I've felt my "Passion For Fashion" in my blood since birth...but in recent times, I question if I love fashion more than fashion loves me. I love to create beautiful things, but I also believe in adding humour to the formula to ensure a sense of lightness is experienced".

VISUAL MERCHANDISING & DESIGN DIRECTOR

May 2021 - Oct 2021 (Freelance Project)

I was responsible for all VM-related matters across all stores in China (Shanghai, Hangzhou, Beijing, Chengdu, Shenzhen, Taiwan, and Hong Kong) as well as the overall look of storefront windows, sales floor, and displays. Planograms were created to assist with arrangements of in-store merchandise to optimize visual aesthetics that essentially contributed to sales. Devised & designed seasonal window programs for all stores that essentially tied back to seasonal RTW, Home, and other key collections.

Created innovative displays, merchandising, and styling techniques for windows and store interior. The most satisfying task was creating the VM standards manual/guidelines and follow up with VM training workshops for all VM related colleges as well in-store staff. The implementation of SKU-capacity exercise to maximize sales through better use of in-store fixtures and props was equally satisfying. Worked with store projects from design to build stages of all new and refurbished store; Develop new global store concept and fixtures; Designed and implemented Visual Identity guidelines for WeChat post for digital marketing purposes.

HEAD OF DESIGN

November 2017 - March 2020

As Head of Design, my main responsibility was to direct my team of 12 designers and manage all of the day to day designs requests from multiple Airline projects. Communications was a key aspect of this position as I also was required to hold frequent dialogues with our clients who were International Brand ambassadors to ensure that their company's DNA were in line with the respective design we delivered. Biweekly visual and verbal presentations were required as part of the important process of information sharing. My designers and I were also very active in participating in regular factory visits to implement & exercise a habit of upholding excellent communication between design room and sample factory experts. On top of sending sample orders via email, being present & having more understanding of the sample rooms capabilities ensured samples arrival in near perfect condition.

DIRECTOR OF CREATIVE SERVICES

January 2016 - October 2017

I was brought into this company to start up a brand new department called Creative Services. This department consisted of 3 designers and a sourcing component were our main functions were to delivery seasonal trend forecasts, source latest fabric and material innovations as well as predict seasonal key silhouettes for both woven's and knit/sweater categories. With these vital design, trend and fabric information, we were responsible for supporting the five main apparel in-house businesses within Newtimes Development Ltd. Communication was a key aspect of this position as not only did my team and I delivered quarterly presentations to colleagues, I spent substantial time with our respective clients from the US and Europe to ensure a high level of business relationship were maintained. Main clients were Ann Taylor Inc, Nordstrom, and Ralph Lauren

REGIONAL VISUAL MERCHANDISING MANAGER

July 2013 - December 2015

Being invited back to join the Luxury Fashion conglomerate, LVMH was a compliment.
As the Regional Visual Merchandising Manager, I was responsible for communications on all VM related matters for HK, Macau, Taiwan, Korea and SEA countries including Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines as well as Vietnam. This position was also required to extend my expertise to the Travel Retail part of the business where cities include Hawaii, Guam, Saipan, Okinawa, and Bali respectively. My key achievement gained in this particular role was to devise a strategic plan (SKU capacity for each of the stores I was managing) and implement key infrastructures with the focus to build stronger communication channels with headquarters as well as with our key countries and vendors. Bi-yearly VM seminars were organised which included intense workshops, exercises, & visual demonstrations to visiting partners to ensure all new VM directives and any vital VM related information were well received & understood. For more details on key responsibilities,  please click on Learn More and view my CV.

Final_edited_edited.jpg

CREATIVE DIRECTOR

July 2009 - July 2013

It was the right time and place for me to start my own side project to rekindle my love of Menswear and Product Development for various items. I started "Compoundby3spirit" to provide an alternative solution to the traditional way of delivering made-to-measure garments. I combined the best of fine tailoring & designed a capsule collection of menswear pieces, including Jackets, Pants, Shirts & Undershirts. Applying my know-how on Merchandising, these pieces came together seamlessly in that the collection would not only be worn in traditional ways, but they were fluid enough to be styled and "tailored" to my client's needs. My goal was to deliver a modern look, which I appropriately name "Tailored Sportswear." A line of canvas tote bags and pouches was launched in 2011 to satisfy my customers' growing demand. Though my Tailored Sportswear menswear collection has been made dormant for now, a completely new and revised online store www.Cb3S.com was launched in August 2020 to continue selling the tote bags and other carefully edited merchandise. From February through June 2013, I was also invited as a Freelancer to manage a VM project for TSE CASHMERE. I designed, managed, and executed the windows animation whilst simultaneously assisted with the strategic planning of their in-store merchandise for both TSE and TSESAY brands.

VISUAL MERCHANDISING MANAGER

March 2008 - June 2009

In 2008 I was invited to join The LVMH Group, to manage their Visual Merchandising team in Greater China. My main achievements during this time was to orchestrate and implement store set-ups for all new store in China. Based in Shanghai, within a very short timespan of one year,  I was responsible for opening stores in cities including Sanya, Changchun, Suzhou, Qingdao, Changsha, Urumqi, Dalian as well in infamous Wuhan. Communication was a key factor in my day to day operation since there was a deep need to work closely with my Merchandising colleagues who owned different parts/ product categories of the business. This process helped tremendously to deepen our working relationships, making sure that their product categories were well animated and visually merchandised in a fashion to ensure increase of sales.  As well as having a close relationship with headquarters to ensure that all seasonal VM/window directives were well received and understood, frequent in-house presentations & training were delivered to in-store colleagues and VM team so that all vital VM-related information will be shared and understand across the country. My goal here was to establish the importance of maintaining consistency and the highest level of workmanship.

Chloe.png

REGIONAL VISUAL MERCHANDISING MANAGER

September 2007 - March 2008

Every Fashion / Accessory brand will have an item which will be considered as an "entry-level-priced" item where it speaks to a broader clientele. CHLOE was my "entry-level" opportunity to experience what Visual Merchandising was all about. My main responsibilities were all VM related matters including props ordering, as well as implementation of all window directives for both CHLOE & SEE BY CHLOE stores. The cities which were under my responsibility were HK, China, Taiwan, Korea as well as SEA regions where cities included  Indonesia & Malaysia. Again Communication was a key factor in my role as I was required to work closely with my Merchandising colleagues to decide & confirm that relevant props used for animation within the stores (of their product category) would ultimately lead to an increase of sales across all regions. Equally as important, regular product training and visual demonstration of VM were conducted for all in store staff and what we named as the VM ambassador who was of Sales headcount, but was the dedicated in store person to make sure the store would be maintained in a visually "PERFECT condition. My biggest achievement gained at CHLOE was that I had the opportunity to source alternative vm-related fabrications/material qualities/suppliers in Asia for duplication of original window installations for more cost effective solutions.

CMA.png

PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT MANAGER

February 2005 - February 2007

My position at Coles Myer Asia (now named Coles Group Asia) gave me the opportunity to not only utilise my design skills in apparel but also apply my eye for trends in the home area. I was responsible for developing products for the Australia-based three tiered stores Myer, Target and Kmart respectively in both areas. My design team consisted of 5 where 3 of them were graphic designers, one who was responsible for sourcing factories, and the remaining being a package designer. Considering the stores we were designing for, the products were quite extensive. They range from apparel in wovens & cut and sewn (womens:mens:kids) sleepwear, denim & accessories. As for the home area, "soft products" included bed linens, cushions, towels, where 'hard products" included ceramics, outdoor furniture, storage solution as well as garden accessories. Since Myer, Target & K-Mart operated and differentiated themselves as Best, Good, Essential respectively, working within those specific budgets were of priority. Having an office in Shanghai was convenient as frequent visits to factories in different parts of China was essential for my Australian Merchandisers and I to get a better understanding of the production process as well as a good opportunity to maintain a good business relationship. This also ensured good communication channels were established between Hong Kong & Shanghai office as my end goal was to make sure all samples delivered from vendors were in near perfect condition. Together with our Melbourne based Merchandisers frequent travels was essential to attend major fairs and shows to collect inspiration. Major show in Paris was Maison & Objet, ICFF in New York & store market research in London.

hkapa.jpg

WARDROBE MANAGER

October 2002 - February 2005

The opportunity to utilise my management skills started when I accepted the position to work at the Hong Kong For Performing of Arts. I was responsible for looking after 8 seamstresses who also simultaneously acted as lecturers to students who were attending the college to learn costume designs. Monitoring progress of costume for the various productions on a timely manner was priority but making sure a strategic plan was implemented for all purchasing of fabrics & materials were also equally important. The use of these costumes were very different compared to the apparel for commercial use so the fitting process were very crucial which I also organised. There were many different productions offered at the HKAPA, where it ranged from Drama, Modern dance, renditions of Broadway musicals / dramas,  all the way to Chinese opera. With this variety of costumes in stock, my main achievement was to implement a separate department where we offer to hire costumes out during festive seasons. I also had the opportunity to beautify all of the windows within the HKAPA window displays as way to "market" this new costume hire service. There were several in-house exhibitions which involved the Wardrobe department where I supervised and directed the whole production.

g2000-logo_500x455.jpg

SENIOR DESIGNER

June 1999 - August 2002

As my first job in Hong Kong, G2000 gave me the platform to continue to apply my design skills and talents which I had acquired in New York's Parsons School of Design. Menswear "shirts" & "outerwear" were my first responsibilities, then as time passed, I slowly worked my way up to work on the women's executive collection aimed for at the working clientele. Selection of relevant fabrics, trims, market research as well as research on trend forecast was a familiar process, but taking into consideration the relatively commercial clientele we were designing for, frequent communications with other related in-house department such as Buying and Visual Merchandising teams were crucial. Sketching, Technical specking, & Tech pack preparing were still very much apart of the design process, but learning to work with buyers from different regions including China, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia as well Vietnam gave me a fresh look at alternative ways to the traditional design process. Overseas travels as inspirational trips was made up of approximately 30%, the remaining period included visits to our Guangzhou office to learn more about the growing demands of the Chinese clientele.

DESIGN ASSISTANT

February 1997- February 1998

I first met Patrick when he was one of my Senior year Designer Critique where I later on was fortunate enough to win the Gold Thimble Award in his category. He then offered me a position at Anne Klein Inc as he held the position of Creative Director. Not long after, I moved on with him to assist him with his own collection "Patrick Robinson". In this role, I had the opportunity to manage many of the creative process including sketching, fabric selection, gathering of inspirations, as well as completing all of the technical sketches. We traveled to Paris to attend the Premiere Vision fabric fair as well as to Ancona, Italy where his collection was produced. During fashion week, it was my first time to experience how a seasonal show is organised and produced. Working with the production house KCD, and seeing how the models were selected, it was truly an eye opener. It was everything I had imagine (and more) of how much work and organisation is required to put a runway show together.

RT_edited.jpg

DESIGN ASSISTANT

September 1996 - February 1997

After I completed my internship with Ralph Lauren, I was thrilled to have been offered a position with my "Dream Designer" Richard Tyler. I was sketching for both his Men's & Women's collections. Part of his ready-to-wear line was produced in Italy, where 30% of his collection was made up of what he considered his Couture Collection. These Couture pieces were mainly catered for the likes of movie celebrities (Sarah Jessica Parker) and red carpet events which were mostly held in Los Angeles. Ironically, his Atelier was stationed in LA, where I was then requested to fly there to work more closely with all of his seamstresses. It made sense that these 30% pieces which were mainly gowns and dresses in the most delicate fabrics were made in LA so fittings could be conducted quite conveniently with the particular talent he was designing for. At the time, he was also made Creative Director for the Iconic Italian brand BYBLOS. While my colleague was involved with the show collection, I was engaged in  sketching for both the women's and men's ready-to-wear collections.
